🚨Nike Streakfly (get it now): Running Warehouse

Intro

I recently picked up the brand new Nike Streakfly and I actually paid less for these shoes than I’ve paid for the last couple pairs of other shoes I’ve bought for review, you can’t always say that about the newest Nike. But regardless these right here are really something special.

So let’s quickly talk about three things about the new Nike Streakfly that are going to be important when you are considering picking up a pair. Those three things are going to be #1 all the stats, #2 My impressions, and 3# what I’m looking for in the lead up to the full review.

Specs from Running Warehouse

  • Weight

    • Size 9: 6.0 oz

    • My size: 6.8 oz, 192.7 g

  • Stack: 32 - 26

  • Drop: 6mm

  • No Carbon plate, but there is a Pebax Shank in the midfoot giving it a bit of stability and helping you through your footstrike.

Run Stats

  • Runs: 1

  • Miles: 6.25 miles, progression run starting at 7:55 per mile and ending at 7:15 per mile

Fit

  • Sizing

    • So I got my typical size 11 1/2 and that worked out really well however I will say that I feel like maybe this runs a tiny bit long I probably could've fit into a half size lower, but there were no other issues at all, I would probably try on a half size lower in the store though if I was getting these to race in.

  • Comfort

    • Oh my gosh the comfort, I mean the shoes figuratively disappear once you put them on your feet they are so light, the upper is great there's no hotspots at all, the zoom X midsole is so squishy it's insane.

But that kind of leads into the next point I want to talk about but having a secure feel.

  • Secure feel?

    • This is an interesting one for me because this is the first time I've ran in issue with for Hill to tow Nike zoom X foam and it is pretty unstable when you're just standing around or walking around your feet to go left to right pretty easily, but once you start running it's almost like this you automatically knows what it's supposed to do and I got through my foot strikes so efficiently and I never felt like my feet were wobbling left to right, it was a pretty impressive phenomenon.

Upper

There was quite a bit of bunching on the upper right at the base of the laces and it’s due to the tongue being almost fully gusseted. So when you pull the laces tight from the top, which is great by the way, you just pull them and the whole shoe tightens up almost exactly how I would want it to anyway. But when you do this, the upper really bunches up. The good thing is that on my first run I didn’t even feel it at all, so it is really just a cosmetic thing, but I wish that Nike would have ironed that one out a bit better. There is so much volume on the inside of this shoe, I can’t imagine really not needing to tighten the laces and due to the design, they all tighten evenly so you’re not really going to get around it.

Forefoot

There is plenty of room in the forefoot and I had zero issues at all. If you're coming from as you like hookah you'll notice there's a bit more in the forefoot. I also had plenty of vertical height for my toes there's really nothing to complain about here.

Tongue

For the tongue there is really good padding, there's two pads on each side and that combined with the soft and very slight stretch in the laces provided a really nice feel, I didn't feel any pressure on the top of my foot that I don't like so that was good even though there is a space right in the middle which was kind of concerned about right away but the way it works was great.

Heel

The heel is very minimal, there's not much to it at all, but it is structured enough with probably a plastic cup in here to give you enough confidence and for your heel to really lock in there. There's also a perfectly placed heel pad That holds your foot in there very securely. The only thing I could complain about the hill is this extra flap of fabric up here doesn't really do a whole lot I'm guessing it's mainly to help you put the shoe on like a pole tab but pretty much anytime my ankle flexed it just folded right down which is fine I guess I'm sure they anticipated for it to happen that's why they put this black line in here to make it kinda look cool but yeah I thought that was an interesting feature.

Fit

One note I will make is that there is basically no arch support, so if you are someone you really needs that, be careful with this one becasue you also cannot remove the insole and add your own. Now the heel is so fittet that I don’t think it would work out well to add anything in there anyway, but just know that about this shoe before buying it.

Ride

  • Landing

    • The landing in the Nike zoom X is really impressive how they can absorb the energy and really make it bounce right back it's really really cool, I felt very efficient in the shoes, which I really can't say about a lot of shoes I try. A lot of times I'm feeling energy stolen away or having to put extra energy into certain spots on my foot strike, with the zoom X foam there was none of that.

  • Forward rock / launch

    • The forward rock in the street fly is helped out with the 6 mm drop, it's not super aggressive like on a lot of Nike shoes that are 10 mm, but it's just enough to help you flow and get in and out of your foot strike.

Midsole / Foam / Stack

Zoom X

Now I kind of already talked about the midsole, foam, but I mentioned it again that it was just really a joy to run in, I felt like I was continuing to get energy throughout the entire run, and on this it was around that basically turned into a progression run I kept dropping the pace each mile I went. This is a midsole that I really felt like it was complementing my running and was just getting me in and out of my foot strike fast efficiently and providing enough bounce to keep moving forward at pace.

Feels kind of like the shields in Dune, quick and fast blows like while running, and it works super well, slow pressure and it’s unstable.

Performance

The great thing about this shoe, and all really well made shoes, is that they don’t present you with any distractions, which lead to reasons to reduce effort or even stop. Now this may sounds trivial or made up. But I’m serious about it, this makes a huge difference when you are our there running. Any little resistance or thing that you don’t like about the way a shoe feels will constantly be grabbing your attention and building up resistance that you need to overcome to keep moving forward, to keep pushing the pace, or to finish the current interval or race. But the beauty of a shoe like this is that it figuratively disapears and allows you to focus 100% of your mind on your tempo, your rhythm, your effort, pace, and your heart, it really is a thing of beauty. So next time you get a shot to try a shoe like this, you need to, if only to feel that for a few minutes.

Outsole

High abraison rubber in the forefoot and heel now, which is something I was glad to see, definitely means that it’s meant to take on more miles than some of Nike’s other high performance shoes.

The patern in the rubber was also vey nice, really good grip on everything from smooth surfaces to loose gravel, and even wet surfaces.

Laces

• Offset Lacing helps alleviate pressure and create a locked-in fit. I thought it was nice, no problems there, stayed tied and I really liked the fact that I could just pull it tight from the top and it transfered all that tension throughout the laces.

What's the Deal?

Price

  • Is it worth the price? $160 after one run, I am going to go with a big yes, and the one thing that might make that change is if they start falling apart before the full review.

My Reaction

This is marketted as a shoe for shorter races and while that might be what it’s best at, I would definitely put this in the half marathon category as well right now. I mean I did not want to stop running in it and it felt like it was just getting better and better the longer the run went. So I’ll keep testing this one and take it out on at least a 20 mile run here soon to let you all know if there is any point of diminishing returns for this shoe.
